HSS Holiday Gift Drive

This holiday season I am teaming up with Henry Street Settlement, an organization that I worked with while I was at JPM. While working there I led a gift drive for families in their work force and relied on fellow colleagues to help clear their wishlists. Since I consider the FF Fam my fellow coworkers, I wanted to put my following to good use and help these families with some extra assistance this holiday season to make sure Santa can make their wishes come true. Each wishlist is linked to a specific family amazon wishlist so please click on the letter you’d like to help and shop from the provided link! When checking out, PLEASE make sure to select the appropriate shipping address that is correlated with that list. If items are on the list, they are still available and if they are not, then they have already been purchased.

Henry Street Settlement has been a beacon of hope for New Yorkers for 130 years, and continues to serve its mission by opening doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents, and other New Yorkers through social services, the arts, and health care programs. The Henry Street Settlement is guided by the motto refrain “In times of need, act,” providing empathetic, innovative, and wrap-around programming that is centered around our community’s expressed needs. We operate 60 programs and continue working in 18 locations across the Lower East Side. Henry Street Settlement employment programs offer tailored services for vulnerable jobseeker populations, as follows. Walk-in jobseekers of all backgrounds are served by our Job Essentials Training/JET program. -Our place-based Jobs Plus program serves residents of NYCHA's Lillian Wald and Jacob Riis houses. English Language Learners receive contextualized language instruction and employment services via our ESOL-Job Readiness program, and our ESOL Basics classes serve those with very limited fluency. Adult Learners with literacy levels as low as 4th grade are served by our HSE Prep program. We provide meaningful work experiences for young adults. Our place-based Shelter-Employment program serves residents of HSS's family homeless shelters. HSS maintains a distinctive dual-customer model, providing client-led job services while also viewing employers as critical partners in shaping our work.

The SYEP programs is our Summer Youth Employment Program! Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experiences each summer. Participants receive the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help to develop their social, civic and leadership skills. At Henry Street, SYEP participants are given jobs at our Summer camps, Older Adult Center, Art Center, and are also connected to job opportunities within local businesses that we partner with.
